My confidence with power tools is thanks to my friend Ben Teague. While working on sets at Town and Gown theater in Athens, GA he asked, "Do you want to learn how to use a pneumatic staple gun?" ... uh, yes please!

Several years later, fueled by my frustration in finding the perfect furniture piece for storing shoes in our coat closet (and my reluctance to settle for something that didn't meet my exact needs), I ventured into building my own furniture. While browsing online for shoe storage options, I stumbled upon customizable DIY plans (thanks, Ana White!). I enjoyed the process, successfully built the piece, and became instantly hooked.

In 2015, I made the decision to open an Etsy shop primarily focused on selling ukulele hangers. Over time, I expanded my repertoire and created various custom items for customers worldwide. Simultaneously, I continued constructing furniture for my family and close friends, ranging from beds and reading lofts to mudroom lockers and floating shelves. In 2019, after completing over 800 sales, I decided to shift my focus exclusively towards larger furniture projects, leading me to close the Etsy shop.

Obsessive Constructive Designs was born out of my passion for crafting unique, handmade items that are both aesthetically pleasing and practical for my own home. Through this business, I have had the opportunity to share my love for creating functional and beautiful furniture and art with clients both locally and internationally. What initially started as a hobby and creative outlet has evolved into a business that allows me to share my craftsmanship with others.

What's in a name? 

The name "Obsessive Constructive Designs" may seem like a playful play on words, but it holds a deeper and more personal meaning for me. Please understand that this name isn't intended to trivialize or mock Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Instead, it serves as a meaningful way for me to cope with my own diagnosed OCD. It is an expression of my determination to channel a challenge into something productive and creative. It's a testament to the power of embracing one's unique qualities and using them as a force for positive change. So, while it may sound whimsical, it carries a profound message of personal growth and resilience, not mockery or insensitivity.
